  3. 5 Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

Having a website does not necessarily mean it is still doing a good job.

Businesses change. Services improve, branding evolves and customer expectations move on. Meanwhile, a website built several years ago can remain almost exactly as it was.

That does not mean every older website needs replacing, but there are some clear signs that yours might deserve another look.

1. It Is Difficult to Use on a Phone

Open your website on your own phone and try looking at it as though you were a new customer.

Can you read everything comfortably? Is the menu easy to use? Are the buttons easy to tap? Do the images fit properly on the screen? Can you quickly find the telephone number or contact button?

A website might still look acceptable on a desktop computer but feel frustrating on mobile.

For many potential customers, their phone will be the first place they ever see your website.

A modern website should not simply be a smaller version of the desktop site. It should be comfortable and easy to use on the device your customers are actually holding.

2. Your Website No Longer Represents Your Business

Perhaps your business has improved considerably since the website was built.

You may have better premises, better photographs, new branding, more experience, stronger reviews or completely different services.

Yet your website still shows the company as it looked five years ago.

That creates a real problem.

Someone who has never dealt with you before can only judge the business from what you show them.

Your website should represent the company you are today.

If the real business looks considerably better than the business shown online, your website may actually be underselling you.

3. It Takes Too Long to Understand What You Do

Try the five second test.

Open your homepage and ask whether a new visitor can quickly understand what your business does, who you help and what they should do next.

If the answer is not obvious, the homepage may be trying to do too much, or it may simply not have a clear enough message.

Good website design is not just about making something attractive.

It should make information easier to understand.

A restaurant should quickly show what kind of food it serves. A builder should make its main services obvious. A salon should make it easy to understand what treatments are available.

Visitors should not have to investigate your business before they understand it.

4. It Is Too Difficult to Contact You or Make a Booking

What do you actually want somebody to do after visiting your website?

Call you? Request a quote? Book an appointment? Reserve a table?

Whatever that action is, it should be easy.

A telephone number hidden at the bottom of a page, a booking button that is difficult to find or a contact form that no longer works can turn an interested visitor into a lost enquiry.

People are unlikely to spend several minutes trying to work out how to become your customer.

The fewer obstacles you put between interest and action, the better.

5. The Website Feels Slow, Broken or Technically Frustrating

You do not need to be a web developer to notice when something feels wrong.

Pages take too long to appear. Images slowly load. Sections jump around. Links are broken. Videos struggle. Parts of the website behave differently depending on the device being used.

These small frustrations add up.

A modern website can still use video, movement and interesting design, but those features should improve the experience rather than make the site harder to use.

If an older website is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain or constantly needs another fix, there comes a point where rebuilding it can make more sense than continuing to patch individual problems.

Does This Mean You Need a Completely New Website?

Not necessarily.

Sometimes better photographs, clearer content, improved navigation or stronger calls to action can give an existing website a new lease of life.

In other cases, the underlying website is simply too outdated or restrictive and starting again makes more sense.

The important question is not how old your website is.

It is whether it still represents your business properly and makes life easy for your customers.

If you are not sure whether your current website needs a few improvements or a complete rethink, Blue Lion Websites is happy to offer some guidance and talk through the options. You can contact us in the UK on 07863784600 or 07863767936, or from outside the UK on +447863784600 or +447863767936.

Sometimes looking at your own website through the eyes of somebody who has never seen your business before is all it takes to spot what could be improved.
